Young skater on a high with new group

MIKAYLA Schoenfisch is used to people looking at her like she doesn't know what she's doing when she heads down to the skate park.

But when she straps on her quad skates and gets going, their jaws drop.

The pint-sized adventurer is a competition quad skater capable of front flips, back flips and a host of other tricks and she wants to see others having a crack at it.

She is sponsored by a group based on the Gold Coast called Chicks in Bowls, but has been doing her best to get a group going in Toowoomba.

Each Monday from 5pm people can find her down at the Chalk Drive skate park ready to welcome people to the new Chicks in Bowls ramp skate get-together.

And despite the name, it's not just for girls - people of all ages, genders and abilities are welcome to come down for a try.

"Mainly when I go to skate parks everyone just stares at me like I'm just a little kid doing my own thing," she said.

"But their mouths open like 'whoa' when they realise I'm a good skater."
