World record attempt to be undertaken at Relay for Life
AS THE Cancer Council's annual Relay for Life approaches, a local church has stepped up their efforts to put Rockhampton on the map with a world record attempt - the World's Longest Paper Clip Chain.
The team from the Cathedral of Praise will be making the paper clip chain while walking the Relay for Life on May 18 and 19 at CQUniversity.
"Relay for Life is always such a team event, and this is just one more way that we can get involved in the wonderful cause of helping those who have been diagnosed with cancer," COP Church Relay for Life organiser Donna Kirkland said.
"I know there are many people out there who have friends, family, neighbours and workmates who are cancer sufferers or survivors, and this is a great way to support the Cancer Council."
To break the existing record, the team will need to construct a chain that is 38km in length within a 24 hour period in the same location.
Those who want to get involved can purchase 100 paper clips for $5 and have them added to the chain.
There will also be many hands needed to construct the chain.
Those who sponsor a bag of paper clips or help put it all together will have their names added as a team member for the world record.
Donna and her team would love to hear from sponsors, with all proceeds going directly to the Cancer Council.
This isn't the first time the Cathedral of Praise relay team has broken records. At last year's Relay for Life they presented the single largest group donation at the event, raising $37,000.
