Man charged with murder after alleged DV stabbing

UPDATE 8.53PM: Police have charged a 36-year-old man with murder following their investigations into a fatal stabbing at a unit block in Idalia last night.

Police were called to the unit block on Oonoonba Street just before 11pm and on arrival, a woman was found with serious stab wounds. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 36-year-old Kirwan man has been charged with one count of murder. He remains in Townsville Hospital and will appear in a bedside hearing tomorrow.

EARLIER: POLICE are investigating another possible fatal domestic violence incident after a woman was found dead in a Townsville unit with serious stab wounds.

Police were called to the unit block on Oonoonba St at Idalia just before 11pm on Saturday.

They found a woman with serious stab wounds and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrested a man and he was taken to Townsville Hospital for treatment.

It is believed the man was known to the woman and had cuts on his arms.

Police are continuing their investigations.
