LOVE him or hate him, there's no denying Kyle Sandilands knows exactly what he's doing behind the microphone.

But that wasn't always the case.

During a TV appearance on Monday night, his longtime Kyle and Jackie O co-host, Jackie O, revealed he accidentally hung up on Victoria Beckham - twice.

The KIIS FM stars were competing against each other on Family Feud when Grant Denyer asked what it was like when they were first paired up on air, back in 2000.

"He was a country boy," she said. "We were working on a night show which was all about music - you had to know everything and he knew absolutely nothing."

Jackie added that his incompetency wound up costing them an A-list interview.

"I think we managed to get an interview with Victoria Beckham, which was a big thing for us," she said. "He hung up on her twice before we even got a chance to speak to her. We lost the interview completely."

Jackie claimed she went to complain to their boss, and try to get Kyle kicked off the show - but he managed to turn it around.

"Whatever [Kyle] did, he must have gone home and he must've studied everything within 24 hours, because he came back the next night and he knew everything and he nailed it," she added.

Fast-forward 17 years, and the Kyle and Jackie O show is sitting at the top of the FM ratings ladder in its prime time breakfast slot, attracting an 11.1 per cent share of the audience in the most recent ratings survey.
