Who plays who in first week of AFL finals
THE home and away season is done and dusted. Now we turn our attention to week one of the finals.
The AFL has confirmed this year's finals series will launch with a Thursday night blockbuster.
The schedule and venues for the first week of the finals won't be announced until around 8:30pm AEST on Sunday night.
Like last season, the week one matches will be played on Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night.
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 7
First Qualifying Final
Adelaide v GWS at Adelaide Oval, 7:50pm AEST
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 8
Second Qualifying Final
Geelong v Richmond at the MCG 7:50pm AEST
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 9
Second Elimination Final
Sydney v Essendon at the SCG 4:20pm AEST
First Elimination Final
Port Adelaide v West Coast at Adelaide Oval, 7:50pm AEST
Acting AFL football operations boss Andrew Dillon confirmed the Thursday night start.
"(The first final) will certainly be on a Thursday night, whether it's interstate or not will depend on how round 23 plays out," Dillon told SEN radio.
"We'll probably be still waiting until the (result of the) West Coast-Adelaide twilight game on Sunday to know exactly what the final make-up of the eight is.
"But it will be Thursday night, Friday night, and then we'll have two games on the Saturday, one during the day and one at night."
