WATCH: News reader tries her hand at hardcore shooter, Doom

SHE'S best known for reading the news but this week, Newstalk ZB's Niva Retimanu took on a new challenge, sitting down to play the popular video game Doom.

Assisted by Sam Morgan (not the TradeMe one...), Niva quickly took control of the situation, despite having not played a videogame since Pac-Man in 1983.

"How are you doing this?" exclaimed Morgan, as Retimanu began slaughtering her demon opponents.

"Oh my goodness, I'm a murderer," cried Retimanu, before adding, "I love it!"

The unlikely gamer became an instant convert, declaring she loved the game.
