The Voice winner Ellie Drennan to strip back with new music

THE Voice winner Ellie Drennan plans to strip her music back to basics.

The 16-year-old from the Central Coast of NSW was crowned the fourth winner of Nine's reality singing show last night.

Coached by British pop star Jessie J, she is the youngest singer to take out the title.

The teen told APN she's keen to release more of her own material after singing covers on the show.

Her winner's single Ghost, on iTunes now, is the first taste of Denman's songwriting abilities.

"I really can't wait to be able to share my music with people. I just want to get it out there," she said.

"I love the sound of Ghost but I'd really love to do some acoustic stuff.

"I have to have my guitar with me (when I'm writing songs)."

Drennan promised fans a few more original tracks on her upcoming Voice winner's album, due for release on September 11.

While runner-up Joe Moore's background as a busker was touted on the show, Drennan revealed she also found her sound while busking at local markets.

"It's an acoustic area and I think that helped me to find my sound with what we do there," she said.

Drennan was repeatedly praised by her coach for displaying a maturity beyond her years, and she has some advice for other young regional singers looking to launch their careers.

"If you really love it and have a passion for it then go for it," she said.

While Jessie J's future on the show is uncertain, she will remain a guiding light for Drennan as she embarks on a recording career with Universal Music.

"We gave each other our numbers and she said if I ever need anything I can contact her," Drennan said.

"It's good to know she wants to keep that connection."

An average national audience of 2.154 million viewers tuned in to the grand final show, which was the top-rating program of the night.
