VIDEO: A dozen cars alight in wrecking yard blaze

BETWEEN 10 and 15 cars have caught fire at a wrecking yard south of Mackay this morning.

Mackay Fire Station officer Scott Campbell said fire crews were called out to the Bakers Creek Wreckers just after 8 this morning to "multiple cars on fire".

Crews are unsure at this stage how the blaze started, but there was "a small grass fire" outside the fence that they were able to extinguish as well.

The fires are now under control, with fire fighters still on scene to establish it is safe and no chance of fires re-igniting.

The wrecking yard owners met with fire crews but didn't say if they knew how the blaze started.
