Victoria Beckham has divided the internet with this image

IT'S the picture that's dividing the internet.

Victoria Beckham shared the snap (below) with her 11.6 million Instagram followers, on Sunday (UK time).

The photo depicts her kissing her five year-old daughter Harper on the lips.

And what was supposed to be a nice birthday message - the 42 year-old captioned her picture by writing: "Happy birthday baby girl, we love you so much" - has created a social media storm.

Clearly while some people see a mother embracing her daughter - the vast majority of the comments on Beckham's Instagram account were positive - other people were deeply upset,

However the BBC has consulted social etiquette expert, Liz Brewer who had mixed feelings.

"Normally with a member of your family you don't kiss on the lips unless it's your husband," she said. "With children, I wouldn't have thought it's a particularly good habit to get into but it's her child and she's at liberty to do what she thinks is best," she said.

"I would be uncomfortable doing that and I think most people would be. If she feels it's appropriate, so be it. I wouldn't say it sets a particularly good example."
