Not Bram Stoker’s Van Helsing, but spectacular regardless

Here's a surprise: a diablo-like game worth playing (if it works).

The action RPG genre has been a bit off-balance since Torchlight stole Diablo's crown, so an unknown title based on a misrepresentation of a classical novel character didn't hold much promise.

For $14 The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing is well worth picking up. It's pretty, charming and worth over 15 hours of game-time.

It's better value than a movie ticket.

Here you play as Van Helsing as he travels to the fictional Eastern European land of Borgovia, where his old enemies have enlisted his help in defeating a new threat to the world.

You will get to develop Van Helsing's abilities and equipment as you progress through the story although customisation is slightly shallow.

My play-through pointed out that the game's still a buggy mess but when it does work, you're a godlike grinder of all things ghastly.

Admittedly, none of that has anything to do with Bram Stoker's Van Helsing, but it's hard to care when you're raining death in the middle of a horde of spectres.
