Two women dragged into bushes and sexually assaulted

A MAN has allegedly raped and assaulted two women in Cairns.

The 18-year-old has been charged with rape, deprivation of liberty, and torture.

Police say that around 1am on July 15, a 21-year-old Korean woman was walking down Aplin Street when a man grabbed her, dragged her into nearby bushes and sexually assaulted her.

Around 2am that morning, police report a 28-year-old Japanese woman was riding a bicycle down Aplin Street, near a local shopping centre, when the same man grabbed her, pushing her off her bike and onto the ground.

The man punched her about the head and face but fled on foot when a 29-year-old man walking nearby heard the woman's screams and went to her aid

He is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.
