TWO separate structure fires in the region at the weekend remain under investigation.

Warwick CIB detectives yesterday joined Clifton police and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) investigators at the site of a major blaze in Clifton Sunday morning.

The King St building which housed a number of shops had gone up in flames just before 5am.

Though the building was all but destroyed, fortunately no-one had been injured and local fire crews had helped stop the fire spreading to other buildings in the street.

Clifton police officer-in-charge Sergeant Guy Smidt said no cause of the fire had yet been determined.

"All fires are considered suspicious until proven otherwise," he said.

"It's still under investigation."

A number of items had been taken away from the scene for further forensic examination and the site had been turned over to the insurance company, Sgt Smidt said.

Meanwhile, Toowoomba CIB detectives and QFRS investigators sifted through the remains of a vacant house near the corner of Ruthven and Stenner Sts which was gutted by fire early Sunday.

A CIB spokesman said to date no cause of the fire had yet been able to be determined but investigations were continuing.

It was the second time within a month the old timber house had caught fire.

Police urged anyone with information on either fire to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
