VIDEO: Sarina mum and son hospitalised after rolling ute

UPDATE 8.15AM: A MOTHER and son are in Mackay Hospital after rolling their vehicle while travelling into Sarina this morning.

Sarina Police Snr Const John Black said a Toyota Hilux rolled on Marlborough Sarina Rd after an attempt to overtake a truck took a turn for the worse.

"There was two people travelling in the Hilux east-bound into Sarina and what we believe has happened is the driver of the Hilux was attempting to overtake a slower moving truck," Snr Const Black said.

"In the course of overtaking, the driver of the Hilux has lost control and has then collided into the truck which was travelling in the same direction.

"After colliding with the truck, she has overturned and ended up in the drain here."

Snr Const Black said the truck hit in the incident stopped to help.

"The two people that were injured were travelling in the Hilux. The driver was a woman approximately 40 years old and the passenger was her son about 16 years old," he said.

"They are both okay. The boy got out of the vehicle of his own accord and the woman was assisted by Queensland Fire Service and Queensland Ambulance.

"They were quite shaken up and they have both been taken to hospital but are both conscious."

Snr Const Black said the mother and son, and the driver of the truck involved, were all locals who lives just west of Sarina.
