Transfer station closed until further notice after attack

THE Hay Point Waste Transfer Station will be closed until further notice due to significant damage sustained during a break-in overnight.

Engineering and Commercial Infrastructure Director Jason Devitt said officers were working with police to find the offenders.

"Police are currently at the site undertaking forensics," he said.

"Initial investigations have identified significant damage to the gatehouse wall, forcing closure of the facility until further notice. "Full extent of the damage will not be known until the police investigation has been completed."

The site is expected to reopen later today once the investigation is complete and damage to the site has been repaired.

Anyone with information about the break-in is encouraged to call Mackay Police on 4968 3444.
