Thieves nab $50,000 in lifesaving equipment

NEW ZEALAND lifesavers are furious after lives were put at risk following thieves nabbing $50,000 in equipment.

The volunteers at Piha Beach, west of Auckland, rushed to rescue four men from the water on Saturday morning but found all three all-terrain vehicles and two outboard engines had been stolen from their shed.

Piha First Response Team head Fiona Anderson told the New Zealand Herald on Sunday, "The whole community is sickened and appalled at this cowardly crime."
