The Wrong Book was the right book for Aussie students

AS THE clock struck 11 yesterday morning, thousands of copies of one Aussie children's book were flipped open across the country.

The Wrong Book - written by Australian author Nick Bland - was the chosen tale for this year's National Simultaneous Storytime.

Now in its 13th year, the event encourages teachers, parents, caregivers and libraries to read the book at exactly the same time, on exactly the same day.

Warwick West State School was just one of the many locations people could sit back and enjoy hearing about Nicholas Ickle's story time struggle.

The school registered 600 students for the event, with the school community enjoying a rendition by teacher librarian Sue Higgins, while watching the story unfold on a projector.

Mrs Higgins said the school was passionate about getting children to read for pleasure, rather than just as part of their school day.

"The idea is to promote the love of reading and books and we take every opportunity we can to do that here at West," she said.

"It is exciting for the children because it is something different for them that involves thousands and thousands of other students across the nation."

Mrs Higgins said Simultaneous Storytime coincided with the opening of the annual school Book Fair yesterday.

The book fair will be open for one week.
