Teen allegedly assaulted woman, 62, in home


A TEENAGER has been charged with assaulting a Cairns woman in her own home as she sat in her lounge room on Saturday morning.

Police allege the 17-year-old Manoora man walked into the woman's McCormack St, Cairns residence around 9.40am.

He approached he and attempted to cover her mouth, but the 62-year-old screamed and struggled, causing the man to flee.

The woman, who was distressed by the incident, suffered a minor injury to her mouth.

The 17-year-old did not make off with any property and he has since been charged with one count each of enter dwelling with intent and serious assault.

He is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
