A SUNSHINE Coast man has been charged with the murder and torture of four-year-old boy Tyrell Cobb.
The 32-year-old man and a 32-year-old Brisbane woman have each been charged with one count of murder and one count of torture.
Their charges stemmed from an incident on the Gold Coast on May 24, 2009.
Police were called that day to a Biggera Waters residence where Tyrell Cobb was located unconscious.
He was taken to hospital where he died.
After the withdrawal of a prosecution case in 2010, new information came to light resulting in a team of detectives commencing a comprehensive re-investigation of Tyrell's death.
Gold Coast Child Protection Investigation Unit officer Detective Inspector Mark White said his team worked with State Crime Command's Homicide Investigation Unit and Child Trauma Taskforce.
"These arrests today were the culmination of a lengthy investigation by a committed team of detectives into the death of an innocent little boy that occurred over six years ago," Det Insp White said.
The man and woman are to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
