WITH summer only days away Toowoomba residents might be wondering when warmer weather might arrive and the answer is definitely not this week.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Adam Blazak said an unusual "blocking" weather system was holding a large, high pressure system in place over the Tasman Sea and preventing the cool weather from moving on.

Normally weather like the city has seen over recent days would be quick to pass through, but the unusual system was not only preventing warmer weather from arriving, but would continue to do so for the rest of this week.

He said while sun-loving Toowoomba residents might find it a bit inconvenient, the stagnant weather was a bit of a bonus for towns out west that could use all the rain this season had to offer.

He said while most of the rain had moved on, there would continue to be showers to the east and Toowoomba might receive a few more light showers throughout the week.
