Four-year-old boy in West Mackay bitten by stray dog Damian Barratt

A four-year-old West Mackay boy has been bitten on the mouth by a stray dog while playing in his front yard.

Dad Damian Barret, 26, was taking selfies with his son in the garden when a dog approached at 3.30pm.

He says the dog was initially friendly, but became quickly aggressive and bit the four-year-old on the mouth, injuring his top and bottom lips.

After the attack Mr Barrett says he chased the dog, which then disappeared down Paget St.

An ambulance on scene cleaned the wounds and recommended the boy be taken to hospital for further assessment and antibiotics.

The dog, which could be a stray, was first sighted on Monday afternoon when it approached the same house in West Mackay.

The Barrett family are appealing for the public to report any information to the Mackay Council Animal Management Centre on 1300 622 529.
