READERS PHOTOS: Storms deliver rain across the region
RAIN fell at 1mm a minute for the first 10 minutes of a long-awaited storm which hit Rockhampton yesterday afternoon.
Local weatherman Mike Griffin said a single cell developed over Ridgelands and tracked over the airport into North Rockhampton, delivering falls of up to 40mm in some parts of the city.
He said more afternoon and evening storms were on the radar for the next 48 to 72 hours.
They would start in the Central Highlands and track east into Capricornia, before reaching the coast in the evening.
Yesterday's rain was welcome after a line of storms that passed through the Central Highlands at the start of the weekend split and missed Rockhampton.
"Heavy rain with hail and gusts to 113kmh hit Lochington and brushed Emerald with 22mm on Friday night," Mr Griffin said.
"Marlborough recorded 22mm and Gladstone 38mm on Saturday morning. Rockhampton recorded about 50 drops."
In southern New South Wales, Plumwood recorded 257mm in 24 hours, causing floods which affected Gippsland in eastern Victoria.
