Smoke haze blankets Burnett

THE old truism is where there is smoke there is fire, and if you looked out your window you could be mistaken for thinking there was a bushfire nearby.

A blanket of the smoke haze covered the streets of Kingaroy, but it is an exception to the rule.

According to Queensland Fire and Emergency Services officer Bruce Groer, there are no significant fires burning in the South Burnett.

"Blowing in from burn-offs happening out of the region," Mr Groer said.

"There is a plenty of fire around in country Queensland at the moment."

This includes a string of fires near the Sunshine Coast and the Brisbane Valley Region at the weekend.

Mr Groer said it was possible the smoke could have travelled from hundreds of kilometres away.

There are currently controlled burns at Ballogie and Chahpingah.
