Smoke, burning smell sees Coast school evacuated

UPDATE 12.48PM: Mountain Creek State School has released a statement after this morning's emergency evacuation. 

"During morning session the school experienced an electrical outage to one of its specialist classroom blocks and staff reported an electrical smell," the statement said. 

"Education Queensland guidelines were followed and emergency services were contacted to attend the school. 

"The specialist block and another nearby block were evacuated."

Four fire crews searched the building, but were unable to locate the source of the burning smell. 

Power was shut off to the building and Mountain Creek State School were advised by QFES to contact an electrician to inspect the wiring in the building. 

The statement indicates that staff and students returned to class after the building was deemed safe by emergency services. 

UPDATE 10.40:  Fire crews have left the evacuated school building in the hands of Energex, after an electrical burning smell saw the Mountain Creek State School block evacuated earlier today. 

A QFES spokesman said the school has been advised to contact an electrician to investigate further, after fire crews could not find any evidence of smoke.

Power to the building has been isolated.

UPDATE 10.18AM: Four fire crews are investigating a burning smell that saw a building evacuated at a Sunshine Coast school.

Fire crews confirmed that they found no evidence of fire at Mountain Creek State School, but are currently working to locate the source of the burning smell. 

The power to the building has been isolated while crews conduct their investigation. 

EARLIER 9.48AM: A SUNSHINE Coast school has been evacuated after reports of a burning smell in one of the school buildings.

The Mountain Creek State School building was evacuated, with emergency crews called at 9.30am to investigate the source of the burning.

Two fire crews, paramedics, and police are en route to the school.

Emergency services would not confirm if the building evacuated was in the senior or primary school.
