Sharks right to be nervous about Titans

BACK: The Titans' fiery Greg Bird returns against his old club. DAVE HUNT

TIPPED as the team most likely to collect the 2016 wooden spoon, the Gold Coast Titans can make a massive statement against the seemingly unstoppable Sharks at Cbus Super Stadium tonight.

The Sharks are chasing a club-record 16th-straight win as they power towards their first premiership since entering the competition in 1967.

But, coming off big wins of their own in their past two games and with a home-crowd advantage, the Titans play the type of game than can trouble Cronulla.

In round six it took Cronulla the entire 80 minutes to shake off the Titans who came back from being 14-0 down at half-time to lose 25-20.

The Sharks have been unbeatable since, winning 15 on the trot.

This clash is huge for both clubs; Cronulla determined to win the minor premiership and the Gold Coast a chance to move into sixth place on the ladder and a few points clear of the battle for eight spot.

As the saying goes, every win puts you closer to a loss and with Greg Bird returning from suspension it will be a nervous night for Cronulla fans.

The Titans will have to match Cronulla in the middle of the park which they have done previously but will have to shut down the attack of winger Valentine Holmes and fullback Ben Barba who have both stung them in the past.
