Accused sex intruder: Masturbated in bed beside woman, dropped her baby

COURT: A WOMAN who woke from sleep to find a man in bed beside her masturbating, says the intruder also dropped her baby on the floor.

Gladstone man Colin Lynch, 26, is charged with entering a dwelling and committing an indecent act; and assaulting the baby who was then aged 12 months.

The charges against Lynch arose from alleged incidents at Bundaberg on October 17 last year while he was visiting the city. He did not know the woman.

With the matter set for plea before Gladstone Magistrates Court yesterday, his lawyer Jun Pepito sought an adjournment for a mental health assessment of Lynch.

Although prosecutor Sgt Barry Stevens did not lodge a formal police objection to the delay in proceedings, he told the court it was a serious matter that involved a young mother.

Sgt Stevens said it was an unusual case where the intruder is alleged to have laid beside the woman and masturbated.

"Then assaulted the baby by dropping it," he said. "The victim needs closure."

The case was adjourned.
