Seven people rushed to hospital after head-on crash

SEVEN people, including two young children, were rushed to hospital after a head-on crash on the Bruce Highway south of Mackay this morning.

Initial reports indicated two people had been thrown from one of the vehicles in the collision, a Queensland Ambulance spokesman said.

He said five adults and two children, aged 18 months old and three years old, weren't suffering life threatening injuries and were all conscious and breathing when paramedics arrived at the scene on Sandy Creek bridge at Chelona at about 9.25am.

All of the patients were taken to Mackay Base Hospital. Some were suffering fractures and lacerations.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said two people, one in each vehicle, were trapped but were freed within about 40 minutes.
