'Secret' retailer joins HQ centre

BUSINESSES continue to flock - or in this case it could be frock - to Ipswich with news clothing retailing giant Trade Secret will open its doors at the Home HQ centre on Brisbane Road.

A spokesperson for the Charter Hall Group, the owners and developers of the Home HQ, yesterday said Trade Secret had signed a seven-year lease at the West Ipswich retail centre.

“Trade Secret will be joining Fantastic Furniture, Spotlight, Sleepy's and Elite Fitness at Home HQ,” the spokesperson said.

“The lease term will be seven years and it will open in mid-October.”

Ipswich City Council 's monthly economic update newsletter estimated up to 50 full-time, part-time and casual positions are expected to be created with the opening of the store.

Ipswich Chamber of Commerce president Michael List said the store's arrival was a sign big business was banking on Ipswich's booming growth in the years to come.

“I think the population growth is on reason, as well as our location and available land,” Mr List said.

“Businesses know the future of Ipswich is bright.

“There is so much activity happening now that businesses are wanting to come here as soon as possible, before it's too late.

“Our population isn't stagnant or just steady, we are a growing vibrant city and that attracts business.

“The more we grow the more businesses you will find opening up in Ipswich.”

Trade Secret started on the Gold Coast in 1992, before expanding into Brisbane with stores opening in Macgregor in 1996, Chermside in 2001 and Alexandra Hills in 2002.

They have since expanded into Sydney, the Sunshine Coast and Townsville.

Designs are currently being prepared for their Ipswich store, which will include the chain's stock of discounted brand name clothing as well as a range of jewellery and women's accessories.

The Home HQ Ipswich centre is owned by and developed by Charter Hall's Core Plus Retail Fund, which comprises an approximate $500 million portfolio including a stable of bulky goods retail centres.
