LOCKYER Valley Regional Council has installed a second flood monitoring camera which will add to the region's already extensive early warning system.
Located at Mulgowie, Mayor Steve Jones said the camera sends data and images back to council's disaster co-ordination centre to key personnel without the need for external power.
"Last year we installed a camera at Murphys Creek and the information we received from this camera, especially during the 2013 Australia Day long weekend flood has assisted council to send warnings to residents and plan for future events," he said.
Fitted with a colour imaging system and spotlight for night vision, the solar powered system uses a 3G wireless network to relay information and images to not only council, but also to the Bureau of Meteorology and emergency services.
"With the success we experienced from the camera in Murphys Creek we identified Mulgowie as a critical area for another camera," Cr Jones said.
"We held consultations with members of the community in Mulgowie to find the most appropriate location for the camera.
"The location of the camera was selected and discussions were held to create a disaster coordination committee for that area."
