Aussie women finish seventh at the Amsterdam Sevens

THE Australian women finished seventh at the Amsterdam Sevens yesterday, and fifth overall at the end of the inaugural IRB Women's Sevens World Series.

The Aussies won two of their three pool games before crashing out of Cup contention after losing 19-10 against Russia in the quarter-finals.

They then lost 15-5 against Spain, before beating France 14-12 in the seventh-place playoff.

New Zealand won the series after beating Canada 33-24 in the final to secure their third Cup of the four-round season.

The result meant the Kiwis completed the double with both the women and men winning their respective series.
