Nico Rosberg closes in on lead after Austria GP victory

NICO Rosberg reduced the gap in the 2015 F1 drivers' championship to 10 points behind Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton after making a one-act affair of the Austrian Grand Prix.

With Hamilton slow off the line, Rosberg (pictured) snatched an advantage he only surrendered for a lap during the single pit stops, and he controlled the race with ease despite a late issue with a serious front tyre vibration.

Hamilton pushed hard, but was always behind the eight ball after copping a five-second penalty for crossing the white line on the pit exit. Felipe Massa held on for a distant third, while Aussie Daniel Ricciardo scraped into 10th.

The start of the race was marred by a spectacular crash which saw Fernando Alonso's McLaren climb over the top of Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari, narrowly missing the Finnish driver's head.

STANDINGS: Lewis Hamilton 169, Nico Rosberg 159, Sebastian Vettel 120.
