MOTORSPORT: It’s been a big week for Daniel Ricciardo.

After confirming he would be staying with Red Bull following rumours linking him with a move to Ferrari, Ricciardo had another reason to celebrate his 27th birthday yesterday.

The Perth-born driver, who will hope for a podium spot at the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend, has become the 10th driver to have a grandstand named after him at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne.

Others to have been given the honour include Sir Jack Brabham and Michael Schumacher.

The new grandstand overlooking the third, fourth and fifth turns will be called the Ricciardo Premium Grandstand and Ricciardo said he was delighted.

“Having a grandstand named after me is definitely the ultimate birthday present and an incredible privilege,” he said.

“Hopefully turn four will be my best corner.”
