QUEENSLAND'S most senior police officer, Commissioner Ian Stewart, has been honoured as University of Southern Queensland's Professional Alumnus of the Year for 2015.
Commissioner Stewart, who graduated from USQ with a Bachelor of Business in Human Resources Management in 1995, was one of seven outstanding graduates recognised at the annual USQ Alumnus of the Year Awards held at Picnic Point yesterday.
"To be honoured in this way reflects well on my family, mentors and all those who have encouraged me to always do my best throughout life and on the great team I work with every day at the Queensland Police Service," Commissioner Stewart said.
Born and bred in Toowoomba, Ian Stewart was appointed Police Commissioner in November 2012 after playing a key role during the city's 2011 floods.
A career police officer with more than four decades of service across a broad range of portfolios with the service, Commissioner Stewart credits his degree at USQ for strengthening his resolve to advance his career in the force.
"Initially my plan (for study) was to equip myself with more options for employment potentially in other industries," Commissioner Stewart said.
