Police officer bashed with glass bottle in public park

UPDATE: Police say one of two men accused of assaulting an officer early this morning used a glass bottle in the attack.

Police were responding to a minor disturbance in a public park in Toowoomba North when the fight broke out.

The officer received cuts and bruises to his face but is recovering well.

Both men were arrested on the scene and charged with serious assault and a number of charges relating to obstructing police. 

One man was also charged for being armed in public.

 

EARLIER: Two men accused of assaulting a policeman at a Toowoomba home overnight are expected to front the city's court this morning.

Sergeant Vern Holcombe of Toowoomba police said a police unit had been directed to a Harlaxton residence at about 3am.

He said the officer had received a "bit of a touch up" and as a result two men aged 29 and 41 respectively had been charged with serious assault of a police officer.

The two accused men were taken into custody and will appear before Toowoomba Magistrates Court this morning.
