Police had to taser iron bar wielding drunk man twice

POLICE had to taser a drunken man who had been threatening others with an iron bar at the weekend.

Officer in Charge of Stanthorpe police Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said police were called to a caravan part in the town about midnight Sunday on reports of a drunk man creating a disturbance.

Police arrived to find the 47-year-old Victorian man armed with a steel bar with which he threatened officers.

"The man eventually retreated inside the van, locking the door behind him," Srn Sgt Ireland said.

The man was detained and taken to Stanthorpe watch house charged serious assault of a police officer and obstructing police.

He was refused bail and remanded in custody.
