VIDEO: Armed man on the run after shooting in Point Vernon
UPDATE 12:10PM: AN ARMED man is still on the run after shooting a Point Vernon man in the hand at his home on Thursday afternoon.
It is believed the gun used was a low calibre handgun.
The man is described as Caucasian with tanned skin and believed to be in his early 20s and was seeing running away from the Martin St home after the incident.
Hervey Bay Police Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Acting Senior Sergeant David Guild said the gunman was known to the victim.
He said the 22-year-old victim was undergoing surgery today to remove fragments from his hand.
"We believe (the gunman) was known to residents of the home," Det Snr Sgt Guild said.
He said police would know more about the gun once they were able to examine the bullet fragments lodged in the victim's hand.
Police did not recover a shell fragment from the area.
Another man was at the home at the time of the incident and has given a statement to police.
"We are seeking any information in relation to the incident," Det Snr Sgt Guild said.

UPDATE 10AM: NEIGHBOURS have said the first they knew a gun had gone off in Point Vernon was when emergency crews arrived at the Martin St home.
"We were home for half an hour and the next thing we knew there was ambulances and police cars everywhere," a neighbour who declined to be named said.
Police are searching for a man who entered the Martin St home and demanded cash.
During the struggle, one man grabbed the other's gun by the muzzle. He was left with a graze and burns to his hands.
There was no evidence of a police presence in the Point Vernon street on Friday morning despite three marked police cars in the area after the incident just before 5pm on Thursday.
UPDATE 8AM: A MAN demanded money while holding a handgun during the Martin St gunshot incident on Thursday.
Paramedics treated a man for a gunshot wound to the hand after an altercation in Pt Vernon just before 5pm.
One of the men grabbed the firearm by the muzzle and during the altercation, the firearm was discharged, causing a burn and graze to the man's hand.
The Crime Investigation Branch is continuing to investigate.
UPDATE 6.15PM: PARAMEDICS have treated a man for a gunshot wound to the hand and associated burns after an incident at a Martin St, Point Vernon home.
Police are searching for a second man in relation to the incident.
The injured man was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital but was seen walking around and talking to police.
Emergency crews were called to the home just before 5pm.
Police were seen to be walking around in bulletproof vests which were soon removed.
EARLIER: POLICE wearing bulletproof vests have responded to an incident in Point Vernon.
Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics are also on the scene, treating a man in the front yard of a Martin St home.
Police officers and Crime Investigation Branch detectives are on the scene.
