Police believe paramedic attacker still on Fraser Island

POLICE believe the woman who allegedly stabbed a paramedic on Friday afternoon is still on Fraser Island.

Hervey Bay detectives and uniformed police officers are continuing their search on the island for a Caucasian woman with an Australian accent who is reported to have left paramedic Phil Switzer with serious injuries to his arm and abdomen.

Detective Senior Sergeant David Briese said investigations were ongoing.

"So we had a number of police set up at the barge points on main land, checking people coming off on Friday night," Det Snr Sgt Briese said.

"At the moment we are still attempting to identify the person."

He said teams of detectives and uniformed officers were investigating on the island and on the mainland.

"We had forensics officers go over on Saturday morning and examine the actual scene," Det Snr Sgt Briese said.

"We also had investigating officers and uniformed police on the island over the last few days conducting door knocks of the area and speaking to businesses in the area in an effort to identify the person.

The woman is described as 160 to 175cm tall with a slim build, brown hair and wearing a hooded jumper at the time of the incident. 

He said anyone who was in Happy Valley between 3 and 4.30pm on Friday afternoon or believed to know the whereabouts of the offender was urged to contact Fraser Island police (4127 9288) or Hervey Bay police (4128 5333).
