BARCELONA one day, Venice the next. Food, rent, electricity, all inclusive.

Meet the Coast woman paid to travel the world - a luxurious life on-board the most famous ocean liner in the world - Queen Mary 2.

Noosa's Katariina Holroyd has the best job in the world. A career that family ties put in her blood.

Through Cunard Liners she does world voyage stints of four to six months as a Grills Concierge. It is her job to answer guest enquires about the ship, ports, bookings, tours and more.

She's been at the beck and call of royal families, members of parliament, celebrities and many high profile guests. Service with a smile.

"I definitely do have the best job in the world. I've visited so many places and made so many new friends from countries I had hardly heard of," Miss Holroyd said.

"Working at sea means you have everything paid for you. Bills are non existent and all the money you earn is completely for yourself.

"I always tell myself I am going to save more each contract but the temptation of exploring a new city almost everyday gets the better of me."

Who can blame her? This is a role she was born to do.

"My father worked on cruise ships as a doctor, actually the same company. And my brother and I would visit him growing up, so it's in my blood," she laughed.

But is it a job for anyone?

"I think you need a strong and adaptable personality to be able to work away from home for such a long period of time as well as working everyday without a day off," she said.

"You must also be able to adapt to the different nationalities and cultures as we are all working and living together. An open mind makes life a lot easier.

"Like all jobs there are downsides which in my case would mainly be being away from family and friends, missing out on special occasions like birthdays and weddings.

"Everybody looks forward to to walking off the gangway with their suitcases. Not because we do not enjoy our jobs but that it's a major accomplished feeling."

Noosa still remains her first point of call when she's back home, she's the girl at sea but there's no place like home.

Some of Katariina's favourite destinations

  • St, Petersburg, Russia
  • The lost City of Petra in Jordan
  • Hong Kong
  • The Taj Mahal in India
  • Cape Town, South Africa
  • Mauritius
  • Santorini and most of Greece!
