Police catch zero drink drivers in fortnight on Fraser Coast

THERE is one aspect of the Fatal Five Fraser Coast drivers appear to be across - drink driving.

Maryborough Police Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Farlow said in the past fortnight not a single drink driver had been picked up by Operation Spring Break - a traffic operation conducted throughout the school holidays to ensure people get to their destinations safely.

Snr Sgt Farlow said the lack of drink drivers was encouraging.

"I think people are heading the warnings," he said.

Drink driving is part of the Fatal Five road safety warnings which police target each year.

Other common contributors to fatal crashes include speeding, driving tired, failing to wear a seatbelt and driving distracted.

"Remember the Fatal Five and remember to leave plenty of time to get to your destination," he said.

Snr Sgt Farlow said while drivers had been well behaved when it came to drink driving, police were still issuing tickets for other offences.

He said police would have an increased presence over the long weekend to ensure people returned safely from their holidays.

Operation Springbreak will conclude when school goes back on Tuesday.
