Mud bank? What mud bank? Boaty becomes stuck

Jason Nicholson

A WEEKEND fishing trip came to a muddy halt yesterday when one fisherman's boat got stuck on a mud bank.

Pomona's Chris Taylor was heading back to Tuan from Stewart Island when he missed a turn and ran aground.

Rescuers Matt Purcell and Jason Nicholson said it took six of them and two hours to get the boat off.

"I had to ferry everyone back one-by-one on the jetski to help," Mr Purcell said.

"We had to unload the boat and then push it in thigh deep mud for 60m. It took hours."

Mr Nicholson said: "Other boats going past were just shaking their heads. It was pretty funny.

"We've been joking we're going to apply to council to rename this section of Tuan Creek 'CT's gutter'."
