THOUSANDS of mourners packed a Southport church to farewell Tara Brown who was brutally murdered last week.

Her death sparked public outrage and led to calls for more to be done to tackle the domestic and family violence scourge gripping the nation.

Ms Brown, 24, was allegedly run off the road on September 8 and bludgeoned to death in broad daylight at Molendinar.

Police allege Ms Brown was bashed in the face with a cast iron fire hydrant cover as she lay trapped in her overturned car.

The young mother died the following day in Gold Coast University Hospital.

Her estranged partner and former Bandidos bikie Lionel Patea, 24, appeared in court this week charged with her murder.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on November 11.

Ms Brown's death led to the Queensland Government introducing a host of new measures aimed at tackling the ever-growing issue.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told State Parliament this week domestic and family violence was the biggest issue facing the state.
