'Momma' Naomi flexes her muscles
FOR Naomi Lewis it began as an attempt to get back in shape but ended with her being crowned Queensland's top bikini mum.
The Sunshine Coast 34-year-old took out the Bikini Momma category at the Brisbane Natural Physique Titles last weekend.
For Ms Lewis, the crown capped a 10-month journey to tone up after, like so many mothers, she found herself unhappy with her physique.
She turned to personal trainer Susie Calcino from Tanawha's Valour Fitness, who specialises in body building competition.
Ms Lewis, who has a four-year-old son Damon, said she found herself uncomfortable with herself after letting personal issues and life get on top of her.
While her initial mission was to get toned and increase her fitness levels, she set herself a goal of competing in the statewide Brisbane Natural Physique Titles.
Being her first competition, she said she never really thought about her chances and was blown away when she beat 40 competitors.
"It's a lot of fun and it's positive and you meet a lot of like minded, fit and healthy people," she said.
"It's about being the best you can be. It's not necessarily about winning, it's about your own personal journey, seeing what you can achieve.
"For me, I was pretty surprised with the title. I just wanted to get up and have some fun. It was a very exciting day," she said.
Ms Calcino said Ms Lewis was an inspiration to her clubmates and had shown tremendous dedication every step of the way.
"With Naomi we did a lot of weights to get toned," she said.
"Posing is also really important. You can have the best physique but if you don't know how to present, you won't shine on the stage and that's what's important."
