Millions of Aussies cannot cook

AUSSIES are feeling the heat as millions of us concede we are "disasters in the kitchen".

In fact we're so bad at cooking that celebrity chef George Calombaris has decided to hunt for the nation's worst cook.

Launching DisasterChef on Tuesday, Calombaris and sheepmeat marketer Australian Lamb stirred the pot by releasing a survey showing 22% of Australians - or more than four million - cannot cook.

Researchers also found 42% of us have had at least one major cooking mishap.

"We all know a disaster chef - we often avoid eating their food, which I think is a shame as sharing a delicious meal with friends and family is one of life's simplest but greatest pleasures," Calombaris said.

The DisasterChef will win a cooking master class with Calombaris.
