Men used shotgun to rob a store and then stole a car

TWO men who held up a licensed business with a sawn-off shotgun and a tomahawk are also believed to have stolen a car and crashed it half an hour later.

Queensland Police said the two men walked into a premises on Kingston Rd armed with weapons and demanded cash from a male employee.

Police said the employee complied before the two men fled in a Ford sedan.

"That was located damaged in a nearby underground carpark around 12.30am," QPS said in a statement.

Officers were then called the scene of a traffic crash on the corner of St Andrews Terrace and Beenleigh Rd, just a few minutes drive from the scene of the armed robbery.

Police said a black Toyota sedan was found with significant damage.

"The occupants of the vehicle had fled," police said.

Police said preliminary investigations suggested the car had been stolen from Ellis Place 10 minutes earlier, and its 35-year-old driver had been assaulted.

"Police believe the two incidents are linked," QPS said.

They have appealed for anyone who may have seen either incident in Underwood to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
