AUSTRALIA Post will hold a community forum in Blackbutt on Friday to discuss issues surrounding the 4306 postcode.
Maranoa MP David Littleproud said he urged residents affected by 4306 to have their say "to stop one of Queensland's unluckiest postcodes from haunting our region”.
Blackbutt shares the same postcode as Ipswich, as well as 56 other areas.
Mr Littleproud said Blackbutt residents experienced a number of issues with their town being bundled together with a city 130km away.
"As Ipswich-Amberley 4306 is described as a metropolitan region and Blackbutt-Benarkin region is rural, this postcode has resulted in a diverse and significant range of detrimental outcomes for the Blackbutt-Benarkin region,” Mr Littleproud said.
"For example, producers in the South Burnett region employ backpackers as an important part of their seasonal workforce.
"If these farmers would like the backpackers to extend their 12-month visa to continue working on their property, they're experiencing difficulties because this region is considered metropolitan instead of rural and so doesn't fit the visa criteria.”
Mr Littleproud said the postcode also affected premiums for home contents and motor vehicle insurance.
"Blackbutt and Benarkin are being bundled up with metropolitan woes as the city has a higher crime rate when compared to the rural region,” he said.
The forum will run from 10am on July 21 at the Blackbutt Post Office, 47Coulson St.
