Mayweather's age may favour 'young and hungry' McGregor

CURRENT UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt says age could be a factor in Sunday's superfight in Las Vegas between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.

The American with the perfect 49-0 record is 40 and hasn't fought in two years. The Irishman, meanwhile, is 13 years his junior and in peak physical condition.

Garbrandt grew up as a hybrid fighter while competing in both boxing and wrestling as a teenager and sees a path to victory for fellow UFC superstar McGregor.

"I think it's an entertaining spectacle. You have MMA versus boxing. It's nice, you have those two parallels. I'm hoping Conor does well," Garbrandt told Fox Sports.

"On paper you look at it, Mayweather should do his thing and do what Mayweather always does.

"But then you have all these added factors. Mayweather's getting older, he hasn't fought in quite some time. Conor's riding high with confidence, he's the champ-champ, he's talking the talk and walking the walk. He's young and hungry.

"When someone's young and hungry against an older person. Not saying that Conor's going to go kick the s**t out of Floyd - I'd be surprised - but there's a chance. It's a fight."

The fight is available to watch in Australia via Foxtel's pay-per-view channel, Main Event. Customers can order the fight for a $59.95, with coverage starting at 11am on Sunday. ORDER HERE
