UPDATE: Man named in search for car-theft shooter

UPDATE: 1.30PM: Police are calling for help locating 23-year-old Tait Streeter.

It is believed he can help with the investigation into this morning's shooting at Gaven. 

He was last seen around 11:30AM  in Mermaid Waters and is believed to be driving a stolen 'gunmetal grey' 2011 model Ford Falcon ute, licence plate 777 TOX.

Police report that vehicle he was previously using, a white Holden ute, has been found.

EARLIER: A WOULD-be thief has shot the owner of a car he was trying to steal. 

Police report just before midnight a 48-year-old man confronted another man who was in the process of breaking into a car, which was parked outside a home on Arjun Way in Gaven. 

When approached the man fired a single shot at the car's owner, injuring him in the abdomen. 

The armed man then fled on foot. 

The injured man was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Extensive police patrols of the area were unable to locate the armed man. 

Investigators are appealing for anyone who was in the area and may have information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
