A MAN who led police on an interstate car chase this week remains on the run, after brazenly hijacking a vehicle and stealing two others.
Just before midday on Tuesday, police were advised that a vehicle stolen from NSW had committed a petrol drive off at Wallangarra, on the border south of Stanthorpe.
Police were conducting patrols in the Glen Aplin area when they saw the vehicle travelling north on the New England Highway and attempted to intercept it, but it sped off.
The stolen vehicle was later sighted near Dalveen, with the vehicle again failing to stop when police attempted to intercept it.
A tyre-deflation device was deployed on the Cunningham Highway, however, it was unsuccessful and the vehicle continued travelling north.
It was later involved in a traffic crash with a vehicle travelling south at Fassifern. The two occupants of that vehicle were not injured.
The man (pictured below) abandoned the vehicle a short distance away and ran off. An extensive search of the area involving POLAIR and the dog squad failed to locate him.
Police then received information that a grey Hyundai Santa Fe had been stolen from a location about a kilometre away at Muller Road.
The vehicle was later located abandoned on Broadwater Road at Mansfield.
About 2.45pm the suspect confronted a man outside a Lorinya St home in Mansfield, demanding keys to a car and threatening to assault the victim.
The man then took off in a blue Hyundai Getz, bearing Queensland registration 667KGO, which is yet to be located.
Investigations into the incidents are continuing.
