Man threatens woman with fence post before punching her

A MAN has been charged following two incidents in Mount Isa this afternoon.

It will be alleged a man assaulted another man at a McCarthy Street, Pioneer residence around 3.10pm.

It will then be alleged the man left the residence with a woman before becoming involved in a verbal argument with her. The man then allegedly pulled a paling from a fence and approached the woman, smashing her phone before punching her. He then allegedly struck her with the fence paling before stealing an iPod.

The 28-year-old man and the 26-year-old woman each received minor injuries.

A 31-year-old Mornington man has been charged with common assault, wilful damage and armed robbery. He is expected to appear at the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday (September 21).
