A WOMAN has been left visibly distressed after watching secretly filmed footage of her husband take the phone number of someone who flirted with him yet claimed to be under age.

The incident was filmed by US YouTube channel To Catch a Cheater which sets up fake situations at the behest of people who suspect their other halves of being unfaithful.

However, things go awry when the man being set up realises he is being filmed.

A woman we'll call Mary (not her real name) is then showed a secretly filmed video by the Catch a Cheater crew of her husband feeding ducks in a park.

As the video continues, the husband is approached by a female actor who initially says she is in her first year at a local university and asks if she can sit with him and help feed the birds.

"I was bored, and I'm on my lunch break and I saw you, and I thought you looked really cute," the actor says.

At one point in the heavily edited footage, the man says the woman has "really soft hands".

She then says, "can I confess something?" before pretending she is below 18. Age of consent laws in the US vary from 16-18 years.

"I'm actually 16, almost tuning 17".

The viewer is assured the actor is, in truth, above 18.

The man asks her why she lied, where her parents are and suggests she move further away from him.

"Do you still want to hang out sometime?" she asks.

The man hesitates and says he is "sort of dating someone" much to the anger of his wife watching the footage.

He then says, " I could take your number and we could be friends."

When the actor turns to go, the man spots the microphone cord in her pocket and approaches the crew before knocking on the car's window.

He then gives chase as the car pulls away.

After Mary finishes watching the video she is visibly distressed. The host asks her if she considers it cheating to which she replies, "That's what he would have done, he would have kept at it if he hadn't seen the mics".

The host asks if the women is "happy" she saw the set up. She doesn't look happy.

But she concedes she wants "to know the truth".

"Now I know I'm living with a stranger," she remarks.

On the uploaded video it says the couple is staying together and has sought counselling.

The situations are depicted as being genuine but it's not clear as to how staged or edited they are.

There is no suggestion the man in the video committed any crime or had any affair.
