Man drives through roadblock to hit police officer

A POLICE officer was badly injured when a driver ran him over while evading arrest.

At 7.10pm, officers were conducting traffic duties when they observed a driver talking on his mobile phone at the intersection of Milton Road and Castlemaine Street.

The driver was directed to pull over, however, failed to do so and drove through a red light towards Petrie Terrace.

Another officer directed the man to stop, however he drove between two cars slightly damaging them.

The vehicle proceeded to drive onto a footpath before an officer pulled a plastic road barrier across the path.

The car struck the barrier which then hit the officer.

The vehicle was last seen travelling northbound on Petrie Terrace.

The officer sustained a dislocated left shoulder and was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said all necessary support will be provided to the injured officer.

"I hope he makes a speedy recovery," Commissioner Stewart said.

"We are doing everything we can to find the offender."
